Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common respiratory conditions in the UK, with a patient population of 1.4 million.1 In total, one in four people with COPD wait more than five years to be diagnosed with COPD and one in eight wait more than 10 years for a diagnosis.1 An additional two million people are estimated to be living with COPD in the UK who are undiagnosed.2
BREATHE is a collaborative working project between Chiesi Limited and Fuller and Forbes Healthcare Group, dedicated to strengthening diagnostic infrastructure in primary care. This initiative aims to enhance diagnostic capabilities for patients who are awaiting a COPD diagnosis. By expanding the capacity for spirometry and other diagnostics at the primary care level, we can reduce reliance on secondary care services and diagnostic hubs, empowering and upskilling primary care staff to provide more effective, timely care.
The collaborative working project will be implemented across 17 primary care practices within the Fuller and Forbes Healthcare Group.
The Best Respiratory Evaluations And Treatments in Healthcare Efficiency (BREATHE) project is currently under way. We will update this page when further insights become available.
